The Case for a New Way Forward

After 15 years climbing the corporate ladder as a seasoned global HR executive, like most I began to question the point of it all. Why do we stop it nothing for career advancement? Why do we want to e at the top? Is it societal or family expectations, lack of knowledge of alternative paths, guilt to justify a fancy degree, or somewhere in all three. Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of guiding countless individuals on their career paths across diverse industries and cultures around the world. But despite reaching the pinnacle of success in my field, I couldn't shake the nagging feeling that something crucial was…. missing.

Unveiling the Journey:

Like many of you, I climbed the corporate ladder with determination and ambition. I dedicated years of my life to honing my skills, climbing rung by rung until I reached the coveted executive level. Yet, as I stood at the summit, I couldn't help but feel a sense of disillusionment creeping in. The expectations that came with my role left me unfulfilled, and I realized that the conventional path I had followed wasn't aligned with my true purpose. The full on burn-out, exhaustion, and complete lack of balance in my life to get there didn’t help much either.

It was during this period of introspection that I embarked on a journey of self-discovery and clarity. I delved deep into my core values, passions, and aspirations, questioning the very essence of what it means to lead a fulfilling life. And through this process, I had a profound realization – my purpose extended far beyond the confines of corporate walls, and the staunch realization that I was not alone. For so many of us, the only way out was to jump off the ladder we were working so hard to climb up.

The Birth of "Off the Ladder":

Driven by a newfound sense of purpose, I founded "Off the Ladder" – a platform dedicated to helping others break free from the constraints of traditional career paths. Drawing from my unique perspective as an HR executive who has been both at the top of the ladder and deeply involved in guiding others on their journey, I aim to serve as both a warning to others on a similar journey, and a guide on what to do next about it.

While this is not to say that a corporate path is either a bad one, or one that can in fact be quite lucrative. I found myself quite comfortable and able to easily navigate the corporate rat race, but this does not mean it is the right or best path for me. This is simply the acknowledgement that this is not the ONLY way, and that there can be a better way. A less conventional way forward more in balance with your own time and values.
